01What KaleWay is
KaleWay is a digital tool that helps you:
- Build a sustainable approach to weight management through behavior change
- Generate meal suggestions based on the dietary preferences and restrictions you set
- Plan workouts that match your stated energy and time
- Identify patterns in your relationship with food and use techniques drawn from cognitive behavioral therapy ("CBT") principles to reshape them
- Track your progress over time
KaleWay's methods are informed by published research on behavior change, sustainable weight management, and habit formation. We cite the research that informs our approach on our Science page.
02What KaleWay is not
KaleWay is not:
- A medical service
- A licensed healthcare provider
- A diagnostic tool
- A treatment program for any condition, including obesity, eating disorders, or metabolic conditions
- A substitute for advice from a doctor, registered dietitian, therapist, or other qualified clinician
- A pharmacy or a way to obtain prescriptions
- A monitoring service for medical conditions
- An emergency service
KaleAI, the AI character at the heart of the app, is software. She is not a person, not a clinician, not a coach, not a therapist. She is well-suited to supportive conversation about food, motivation, and the moments that derail you — but she is not qualified to offer medical advice, and she is trained to redirect you to professional support when conversations move into clinical territory.
03When to consult a professional
Before making material changes to your diet, exercise routine, or health behavior — and certainly before relying on any guidance from KaleWay or KaleAI — please consult an appropriate professional. Specifically:
Talk to your doctor before using KaleWay if you:
- Have a chronic condition (heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease, thyroid disorders, autoimmune conditions, etc.)
- Are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding
- Are recovering from surgery or a recent injury
- Take prescription medications, including but not limited to blood thinners, blood pressure medications, antidepressants, antipsychotics, and any medication where your doctor monitors your weight or diet
- Have a history of disordered eating
- Are under 18 (KaleWay's minimum age is 17)
- Are over 65 or have age-related health considerations
Talk to a registered dietitian or nutritionist if you:
- Have specific nutritional needs (managed diabetes, kidney disease, food allergies with anaphylaxis risk, severe dietary restrictions)
- Want a meal plan tailored to a clinical condition
- Have questions about supplements, fortification, or specific nutrient targets
Talk to a therapist or counselor if you:
- Are experiencing significant emotional distress about food, your body, or weight
- Have a current or past eating disorder
- Are using food to cope with feelings in ways that worry you or your loved ones
- Are experiencing depression, anxiety, or other mental health concerns alongside your weight goals
04If you take a GLP-1 medication (Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, Zepbound, etc.)
Always coordinate weight management decisions with the clinician who prescribed your medication. KaleWay can support the behavioral side of your journey while you take a GLP-1, but KaleWay is not your prescriber. Specifically:
- KaleWay does not prescribe, modify the dose of, or recommend any medication
- KaleAI is not trained to give you specific guidance about your medication's effects, side effects, or interactions
- If you experience symptoms or side effects, call your doctor — not KaleAI
- If you stop a GLP-1, do so on your prescriber's timeline, not based on advice from any app
For more on how KaleWay can be used alongside GLP-1 medications, see our GLP-1 page.
05In a crisis, please don't wait
KaleWay is the wrong place. Please reach out to a real person.
If you are in mental health crisis, KaleAI is not equipped to help in an emergency.
If you are in crisis or supporting someone who is:
These resources are also available throughout the KaleWay app, including in the Help Me Now flow.
06AI-generated content
KaleAI generates much of what you see in KaleWay (her conversations, AI-generated meal plans, personalized Trap Cards, AI-personalized Mind Moments). AI-generated content can be wrong. Specifically:
- AI may produce incorrect information, including about nutrition, exercise, and behavior
- AI may suggest something that is not appropriate for your specific health situation
- AI does not have access to your medical records, your doctor's recommendations, or your full health history
- AI cannot diagnose, treat, or take responsibility for medical decisions
When KaleAI suggests something, treat it the same way you'd treat advice from a well-meaning friend who isn't a clinician: useful for thinking, not a substitute for medical guidance. Always evaluate AI-generated content against your own judgment and your healthcare providers' guidance before acting on it.
If something KaleAI says contradicts what your doctor has told you, follow your doctor.
For more on how AI works in KaleWay and what data flows where, see our AI Privacy Notice.
07No guarantees
We have designed KaleWay to support sustainable weight management informed by behavior change research. We have not designed it to guarantee any outcome — and we do not guarantee any outcome. Specifically:
- We do not guarantee weight loss
- We do not guarantee improvements in any health metric
- We do not guarantee that the meal plans, workouts, or guidance we provide are appropriate for you specifically
- We do not guarantee that KaleAI's responses will be accurate, helpful, or safe in your specific situation
Your results depend on many factors, most of which are outside our control: your biology, your circumstances, your access to other support, your relationship with food, and your own choices. KaleWay is one tool among many. We hope it's a useful one. But it is not a guarantee of anything.
08Questions about your specific health
We cannot answer questions about your specific health. If you have a question about:
- Whether KaleWay is safe for you to use
- Whether a meal plan KaleAI generated is appropriate for your medical condition
- Whether a workout is safe given a recent injury
- How any KaleWay content interacts with your medications or treatment
…please direct that question to a qualified healthcare provider, not to KaleWay support.
For questions about how the app works, your account, or technical issues, write to support@kaleway.com. For health questions about your individual situation, speak to a clinician.
